Program 1: UTM Experience PDF Print E-mail

Grades 4 to 8

This two-week program at the University of Toronto at Mississauga offers students an opportunity to live in residence on the university campus while taking part in classes daily ranging in subject area from art to sports, cooking to physics, and everything in between. Our partnership with the University of Toronto was established 26 years ago and thousands of gifted young people have cherished their special time there each year.

Students can choose one or both of the two-week sessions offered below:

  • Session 1: July 4 - 16, 2010

  • Session 2: July 18 - 30, 2010

  • *Optional to stay for interim weekend at additional cost (see below)

Courses

Each day, students attend four exploratory courses chosen from a list of challenging and fun topics related to: technology, personal development, sciences, games, hobbies, psychology, philosophy, arts, fitness, and sports. Some courses are subject to an additional fee to cover the cost of materials specific to the course. All fees are indicated in the course description booklet. Our 2010 Course Description booklet is NOW avaialble.

The final course timetables for Session 1 and Session 2 are not available. Campers who are currently registered may select the courses of their choosing by completing the final course selection, due back to the office by May 7, 2010. It is important to submit this as early as you can as course placement works on a first-submitted, first-served basis.

Instructors

Every year we are proud to offer a unique mix of Instructors with varying backgrounds, abilities, expertise, and knowledge. To read more about the our 2010 UTM Instructors at PSA, please click here.

Recreation

Distinct and unique late afternoon and evening activities are scheduled for each age group. These activities are created and developed based on student suggestions and for this reason, can differ for each session, and from year to year.

We run two activity sessions. daily. The first runs from 4 - 6pm and consists of smaller group activities. In the past, we have had arts & crafts, leisure time, and sports games. After dinner, from 7 - 9pm, we have larger group activities, often age specific, but may include camp wide games. These have included theme nights, scavenger hunts, water nights, and talent shows.

Accommodation

Students live in the university residence in groups of 5 - 7 along with a counsellor who is carefully selected and trained for this program. Students will be provided with 3 nutritious meals a day in the university cafeteria. The university residence is accessed by card keys only and so the building is locked at all times for the safety of PSA staff and students.

Each unit has four bedrooms with an individual desk and bed, two bathrooms to share among the 4 occupants, a mini kitchen and a common area with a table and chairs.

NEW for 2010 - Optional interim weekend stay for campers who wish to stay at PSA for the whole 2 weeks! That's right, you don't have to go home in the interim weekend. You can stay at PSA right through and take part in fun on- and off-campus activties.

The weekend stay will be a little less rigid than during the week as there aren't any "courses" running. The participants will be involved in small group activities and take part in an off- campus outing (eg. mini-putt, or movies,etc.). Of course all meals, activities, and staffing are included in the additional cost of $250.00

Fee for 2010:

**additional $250.00 for optional weekend stay

The fee includes registration, university residence accommodation, daily meals in the university cafeteria, course instruction, supervision, camp t-shirt and all scheduled activities. There may be a nominal material fee associated with some courses.
