The Northern Ontario Leadership Experience (NOLE) is for grade 7, 8 and 9 students who enjoy the outdoors and are looking for a challenge. It offers a unique experience where students will spend their time at 3 different locations in Northern Ontario where the students will utilize their leadership skills they learn throughout in a 4-day adventure in Algonquin park.

The leadership component will provide a valuable context for their time together and for developing their personal skills and aptitudes.

Students will have one session offered below:

  • August 2 - Aug 14, 2009 (12 Days)

**Students will not return home for the interim weekend.

Program Schedule

Days 1 - 6

At the onset of the program, students will spend these days at the Finlayson Field Centre in Caledon, camping in the outdoors and participating in the very popular High Ropes Challenge Program. They will also begin their leadership-training program. The leadership component will provide a valuable context for their time together and for developing their personal skills and aptitudes.

The High Ropes Challenge Program is an experiential, non-competitive program of ten high element challenge activities set in the forest overlooking the Finlayson Field Centre property. Our PSA students, supervised by trained and certified staff, will participate in a series of challenging activities where trust, communication, problem solving ideas and leadership skills will be developed. A challenge-by-choice philosophy enables all participants to choose a level of challenge appropriate for them. The students will have a chance to set goals for themselves and the group, and each activity performed on the course will be based on those goals. The Finlayson High Ropes Challenge will be an exciting and unforgettable experience!

Days 6 - 9

Students will now travel much further north to the Haliburton Forest & Wildlife Reserve in picturesque Haliburton, ON where they will continue to develop their leadership skills. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a Canopy tour above the trees, visit the wolf centre, and engage in other challenging activites  in this unique and natural setting.

Days 9 - 13

The final "leg" of the program will see our group travelling to Northern Edge Algonquin, an outdoor retreat centre located at the Northwestern tip of Algonquin Park . Here, they will go on a 4-day canoe trip into Algonquin Park.
